Modafin is a psychostimulant produced by Alpha Pharma and contains the active substance Modafinil. This drug was initially used to treat narcolepsy (a condition in which people suddenly fall asleep during the day).
It is also used to treat other conditions that cause daytime sleepiness and to treat memory and attention deficit disorders (A.D.D), Alzheimer’s disease and depression.
Effect of Modafinil

Modafinil affects different parts of the brain and it increases the speed of mental reactions. This effect refers to the lower part of the diencephalon, the hypothalamus, where nerve pathways are activated, in which the action of orexin / hypocretins is realized. This plays an important role in the regulation of sleep-wakefulness as intermediary substances.
Modafinil is classed as a doping drug. People have not studied its effect on athletic performance but from what people do know about it, it helps to improve endurance and speed. Bodybuilders report that it reduces body fat due to its appetite suppressing effect.
Side effects of the drug
Insomnia at night should not occur if the drug is taken before midday. Make sure to drink a lot of water and stay hydrated to avoid headaches.
Other potential side effects include:
- Dizziness.
- Feeling nervous or anxious.
- Back pain.
- Nausea.
- Diarrhea.
- Upset stomach.
Using Modafinil
The standard dose of Modafinil is 200mg (1 tablet) per day.
It should be taken orally with water and the time that it is taken should always be in the morning before it gets too late in the day to make sure the drug’s effects can be felt over the course of the day and prevents insomnia at night time.
